Bachelor of Engineering (Naval Architecture) with Honours (Johor Bahru)

Course Overview

The Bachelor of Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering with Honours is taught by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at UTM Johor Bahru as a full-time, face-to-face program lasting four to six years, with 136 credits. UTM’s faculty page titles it Bachelor of Engineering (Naval Architecture) with Honours, but it is the same program. It is run by the Ocean Engineering panel, accredited by the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), and associated with the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) and the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST). The program covers the design, systems, performance, and dynamic behaviour of ships and offshore structures, with courses such as Naval Architecture, Ship and Offshore Design, Ship and Offshore Structure, and Marine Management, Environment and Safety. Students use the towing tank at the Marine Technology Center and software such as Rhinoceros, Matlab, Maxsurf, and Open Source CFD. A 5-credit industrial training placement is also part of the program.

Entry Requirements

• A Senior High School Certificate, Senior Secondary School certificate, or equivalent pre-university qualification from a government school, with at least 12 years of study from primary to higher secondary level.

• Taking part in the bridging program organised by the university.

• English proficiency of at least MUET Band 3, IELTS 5.5, or a TOEFL iBT score of 46.
