Master of Orofacial Sciences (Restorative/Perio/Ortho)

Course Overview

The Master of Orofacial Sciences is a one-year postgraduate programme designed to serve as a pathway between the Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) and MAHSA University’s three-year Doctorate programmes. Completion of both the Master’s and Doctorate programmes is required for graduates seeking registration as dental specialists in their chosen field under the Malaysian Dental Act 2018, subject to the applicable requirements.

The programme is suitable for practising dentists and aspiring dental academics who wish to strengthen their knowledge and clinical skills in a specialised area of interest. The curriculum consists of four core modules: Applied Medical and Dental Sciences, Research Methodology, Research Project, and Community Dental Practice. Students can then select a specialisation in one of three areas: Restorative Dentistry, Periodontology, or Orthodontics.

As part of the programme, students undertake a small-scale research project involving clinical data collection, clinical audit outcomes, preliminary field studies, or introductory laboratory investigations. Research findings may be presented as a mini-dissertation or scientific report, providing students with an introduction to clinical and academic research.

Entry Requirements

• A Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from a recognised local university or an equivalent qualification.

• Applicants with other qualifications considered equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree may contact the university’s educational consultants or submit an application for an admission assessment.
