Doctor in Restorative Dentistry

Course Overview

The Doctor in Restorative Dentistry (DrResDent) is a three-year clinical coursework programme that provides advanced specialist training by integrating key areas of restorative dentistry, including prosthodontics, endodontics, and periodontics. Through interactive academic sessions and extensive clinical training, students develop the expertise required to assess and manage patients using a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach.

As part of the programme, students are required to undertake an original research project through independent study. The research findings are formally presented in the form of a thesis or developed into a manuscript suitable for submission or publication.

Admission to the programme requires completion of a one-year Master’s degree in Orofacial Sciences with an elective in Restorative Dentistry, or an equivalent qualification. Combined with the three-year doctoral programme, this pathway provides specialist training that prepares graduates for registration as Restorative Dentistry specialists under the Malaysian Dental Act 2018, subject to the applicable requirements.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Hold a Master of Orofacial Sciences with an integrated elective module in Restorative Dentistry, or an equivalent Master’s degree by coursework.

• Be registered with the Malaysian Dental Council (MDC) and hold a valid Annual Practising Certificate (APC); or be registered with the dental regulatory authority in another country and eligible to obtain a Temporary Practising Certificate (TPC) from the MDC.
