The Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health at MAHSA University is a three-year programme designed to prepare students for careers in the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) sector. The programme responds to the growing need for qualified safety and health professionals who can help prevent workplace accidents and occupational diseases. OSH practitioners play an important role in promoting and maintaining employees’ health, safety, and well-being across different industries, while also supporting organisations in improving regulatory compliance, productivity, operational efficiency, and employee morale.
Occupational Safety and Health is a field within public health that focuses on identifying patterns of workplace injuries and illnesses and developing appropriate measures, policies, and regulations to prevent them. It incorporates knowledge from several disciplines, including industrial hygiene, engineering, toxicology, epidemiology, ergonomics, and workplace violence prevention. The health and safety risks addressed by OSH professionals differ depending on the work environment. For example, construction workers may face risks involving falls, machinery, and physical hazards, while office employees may be more exposed to issues such as repetitive strain injuries, ergonomic problems, and workplace stress.
The Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health is structured to address the current and future safety requirements of various industries and organisations. MAHSA University aims to produce capable graduates who possess the technical knowledge, professional attitudes, and essential soft skills needed to adapt to the changing demands of the OSH sector and the evolving industrial landscape.
Graduates will be equipped to contribute effectively to workplace safety by helping organisations establish, implement, monitor, and maintain safe and healthy working environments for employees.
