Medical Imaging encompasses a range of imaging technologies and procedures used to visualise the human body for diagnostic and treatment purposes. It plays an essential role in modern healthcare and is used across different population groups to diagnose conditions, monitor disease progression, and evaluate the effectiveness of treatment. The Bachelor of Medical Imaging (Hons) through Open & Distance Learning (ODL) is designed to provide greater flexibility, making it particularly suitable for working professionals and individuals who require a more adaptable study format.
Throughout the programme, students will develop knowledge in key areas such as human anatomy and physiology, general pathology, radiation physics, medical radiation, X-ray techniques, clinical radiography, regional and sectional imaging, digital vascular imaging, mammography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, imaging pathology, medical radiation science, and radiation safety and biology. Additional areas include radiation safety procedures and standards, radiographic practice, image interpretation, health statistics, and professional practice.
The programme is delivered through a combination of online lectures and tutorials using an e-learning platform. Self-learning materials are provided through the online forum before scheduled sessions to support independent study. Interactive learning methods, including discussions and seminars, are also conducted online, with lecturers using tools such as case scenarios to enhance students’ understanding and application of knowledge. Practical sessions are conducted face-to-face, allowing students to develop and demonstrate essential hands-on skills.
Diploma graduates may also be eligible for credit transfer, with previously completed modules assessed and mapped against the programme requirements, potentially reducing the number of modules they need to complete.
