Course Overview

The Bachelor of Environmental Health and Safety (Hons) ODL at MAHSA University is a four-year undergraduate programme designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed for careers in environmental health and safety. Delivered through Open and Distance Learning (ODL), the programme uses flexible and innovative online teaching methods to support students throughout their studies.

Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) focuses on public health principles and practices related to both natural and built environments that can influence human health and community well-being. The programme also promotes sustainable and healthy living environments. Students will study a wide range of areas, including disease prevention and control, food safety and hygiene, drinking water quality and supply, solid waste management, pest and vector control, environmental health legislation, international health management, wastewater treatment, occupational health and safety, risk assessment and management, emergency response, industrial hygiene, and environmental health practices carried out by local authorities.

As environmental health continues to evolve alongside technological and industrial developments, the demand for qualified EHS professionals is increasing both locally and internationally. Graduates can pursue opportunities across various industrial, manufacturing, and government-linked sectors. MAHSA University aims to develop graduates with the knowledge, practical skills, professional qualities, and leadership abilities needed to respond effectively to the changing demands of the environmental health and safety industry.

The ODL learning approach includes online lectures, tutorials, discussions, and seminars conducted through an e-learning platform. Learning materials are provided online before scheduled sessions to support independent learning. Lecturers also incorporate case studies and real-world scenarios to strengthen students’ understanding of key concepts. Practical components are delivered through face-to-face sessions, giving students the opportunity to develop and demonstrate essential hands-on skills.

Entry Requirements

STPM / Matriculation / Pre-University

• Pass STPM, Matriculation, Pre-University, or an equivalent qualification with a minimum CGPA/GPA of 2.33 in two of the following subjects:

  • Biology

  • Physics or Mathematics

  • Chemistry
