Course Overview

The PhD in Management at Asia Pacific University (APU) is a research-intensive doctoral programme designed for professionals and aspiring academics who seek to advance management knowledge through original research. The programme equips candidates with the expertise to investigate complex management challenges, develop innovative solutions, and make meaningful contributions to both academic literature and industry practice.

Students gain a strong foundation in key areas of management, including strategic management, organizational behaviour, marketing, finance, and operations management. While these disciplines provide essential theoretical knowledge, the primary focus of the programme is the completion of independent, high-quality research under the guidance of experienced academic supervisors.

Throughout their doctoral studies, candidates conduct in-depth research that addresses important issues and emerging trends in management. This culminates in a doctoral dissertation that demonstrates original scholarship through empirical investigation, theoretical development, or a combination of both approaches.

The programme also strengthens advanced research capabilities, critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and methodological skills, preparing graduates for careers in academia, research institutions, consulting, senior management, and policy development. Upon completion, graduates are equipped to contribute new knowledge and influence the future of management practice and research.

Optional APU–DMU Dual Degree Scheme

Students enrolled in the PhD in Management may choose to participate in the optional APU–DMU Dual Degree Scheme. Graduates of this scheme receive two degree certificates and academic transcripts upon successful completion of the programme—one awarded by Asia Pacific University (APU), Malaysia, and another by De Montfort University (DMU), United Kingdom. Participation in this scheme is optional and incurs an additional fee of GBP 375 per year.

General Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

• A recognised Master's degree in a related discipline approved by the APU Senate; or

• An equivalent qualification to a Master's degree that is accepted by the APU Senate.
