The PhD in Finance at Asia Pacific University (APU) is a research-focused doctoral programme designed for individuals who aspire to advance the field of finance through innovative and impactful research. The programme equips candidates with the knowledge and expertise needed to examine complex financial issues, develop evidence-based solutions, and contribute to the advancement of financial theory and practice.
Students develop a comprehensive understanding of core areas in finance, including financial theory, corporate finance, econometrics, asset pricing, and financial markets. While these subjects provide a strong academic foundation, the programme places its primary emphasis on conducting independent, original research under the supervision of experienced faculty members.
Throughout the programme, candidates undertake rigorous research that addresses significant theoretical and empirical challenges in finance. This research culminates in the completion of a doctoral dissertation that demonstrates original contributions to the discipline and expands existing knowledge within the field.
In addition to research excellence, the programme enhances advanced quantitative, analytical, and critical thinking skills while strengthening expertise in research methodologies. These competencies prepare graduates for leadership roles in academia, research institutions, financial organisations, government agencies, and policy-making bodies. Upon graduation, students are well positioned to influence the future of finance through scholarly research, innovation, and professional practice.
Students enrolled in the PhD in Finance have the opportunity to participate in the optional APU–DMU Dual Degree Scheme. Upon successful completion of the programme, participants receive two degree certificates and academic transcripts—one awarded by Asia Pacific University (APU), Malaysia, and the other by De Montfort University (DMU), United Kingdom. Participation in this scheme is optional and requires an additional fee of GBP 375 per year.
Applicants must satisfy one of the following requirements:
A recognised Master's degree in a related discipline approved by the APU Senate; or
An equivalent qualification to a Master's degree that is accepted by the APU Senate.
