Course Overview

The PhD in Computing by Research at Asia Pacific University (APU) Malaysia is an advanced doctoral programme designed for individuals who aim to expand knowledge and contribute meaningful research in the field of computing. The programme provides candidates with the opportunity to explore emerging computing challenges, develop innovative solutions, and produce original research that contributes to academic and industry advancements.

The programme focuses primarily on independent research conducted under the guidance of experienced academic supervisors. Students undertake in-depth investigations in their chosen area of computing, leading to the completion of a doctoral dissertation that demonstrates original contributions to the field.

Alongside their research activities, candidates may engage in advanced coursework that strengthens their understanding of theoretical concepts, practical applications, and emerging developments in computing, based on their specific research interests.

The programme also emphasises the development of advanced research capabilities, critical thinking, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities required for success in academic research, technology innovation, and industry-focused computing roles.

Optional APU–DMU Dual Degree Scheme

Students enrolled in the PhD in Computing at Asia Pacific University (APU) may choose to participate in the optional APU–DMU Dual Degree Scheme. Upon successful completion of the programme, participants receive two degree certificates and academic transcripts—one awarded by Asia Pacific University (APU), Malaysia, and another by De Montfort University (DMU), United Kingdom.

Participation in this scheme is optional and requires an additional fee of GBP 375 per year.

General Entry Requirements

Applicants must satisfy one of the following requirements:

• A recognised Master’s degree in a related field accepted by the APU Senate; or

• Another qualification equivalent to a Master’s degree that is recognised and accepted by the APU Senate.
