The Diploma in Information & Communication Technology with a specialism in Software Engineering program provides a comprehensive curriculum that covers essential skills and knowledge in the field. Here's an overview of what you will learn:
Semester 1 focuses on acquiring basic mathematical, language, and communication skills, as well as core information technology skills. Students gain an understanding of fundamental concepts and terminology related to technology and business management.
Semester 2 builds upon the foundation established in the first semester, advancing language and communication skills to more advanced levels. Students enhance their ability to analyze and solve problems using quantitative skills, and they develop a greater familiarity with technology.
Semester 3 takes students to a new level in information and communication technology, covering areas such as computer programming, databases, internet applications, and computer system architecture. Students learn to use computing tools and techniques to solve real-world problems.
Semester 4 introduces more advanced development concepts, including the application of usability principles in web design and the system development cycle. Specialization begins with a deeper understanding of systematic models and standard methodologies that are crucial in the software engineering field. Algorithmic thinking, based on calculus and algebra, is also emphasized.
Semester 5 focuses on expanding students' knowledge of computer networks, digital security, and ethical responsibilities. They also design and implement algorithms using a second programming language. The semester culminates in a Software Development Project, where students demonstrate their ability to integrate skills, knowledge, and understanding from the entire program, including the application of AI techniques for problem-solving.
Semester 6 involves an internship or industrial training for a minimum of 8 weeks, providing students with practical experience and preparing them for a smooth transition into the working environment.
Upon successful completion of this programme and fulfillment of requirements for credit transfer, you will be eligible to progress into Level 2 of the following degree programmes offered at APU

Students who joined the Diploma in Information & Communication Technology with a specialism in Software Engineering at APU University Malaysia will have the option to apply for the APU-DMU Dual Degree Scheme. Under this Scheme, students will be able to get 2 Degree Certificates and transcripts upon graduation: 1 from Asia Pacific University (APU), Malaysia, and 1 from De Montfort University (DMU), UK. please note this is optional and costs GBP 375 Per year.
