In the first year of the Computer Engineering program, students will gain a solid understanding of the fundamental principles of engineering. They will study Circuit Analysis, Instrumentation & Measurement, C Programming, Programming with Python, Engineering Materials, Engineering Design, and Networking. The curriculum also focuses on developing essential skills for managing activities and independent learning. Additionally, modules in IT principles and entrepreneurship provide a well-rounded foundation for meeting the demands of employers.
Moving into the second year, students will focus on modules such as Electromagnetic Field Theory, Engineering Software and applications, Analogue Electronics, Digital Electronics, Signals and linear Systems, Introduction to Electrical Systems, Object-Oriented Development with Java, Programming Concepts in C++, and Human-Computer Interaction. Engineering Mathematics will be provided to enhance the understanding of the engineering modules and strengthen mathematical skills.
In the third year, students will focus on specialized knowledge and skills in areas such as Control Engineering, Communication Engineering Principles, VLSI Design, Microprocessor Systems and Embedded Software, Digital Signal Processing, Modern Communication Systems, and Machine Vision and intelligence. The curriculum emphasizes the application of engineering skills, critical thinking, and analysis. Independent learning remains an integral part of the learning process.
During the 16-week internship, students will undertake practical training through an Internship/Industrial Training program. This experience is designed to facilitate a smooth transition from the classroom to the working environment. Students will gain hands-on experience, develop industry-specific skills, and acquire valuable insights into real-world engineering practices.
The final year of the program aims to enhance students' industry application and technological skills, making them well-prepared for employment upon graduation. Students will undergo personal and professional development, enhance their technical capabilities, and deepen their understanding of innovation, idea generation, and project management. They will deliver several Engineering Projects that demonstrate higher-level critical thinking, analysis, and solution development skills, ultimately enhancing their employability in the field of Computer Engineering.
Students who joined the Bachelor of Computer Engineering with Honours at APU University Malaysia will have the option to apply for the APU-DMU Dual Degree Scheme. Under this Scheme, students will be able to get 2 Degree Certificates and transcripts upon graduation: 1 from Asia Pacific University (APU), Malaysia, and 1 from De Montfort University (DMU), UK. please note this is optional and costs GBP 375 Per year.
